Reveal the True Nature of Your Outdoor Patio
As we take a deep inhale of warm summer air and fully embrace our surroundings, we’re reminded why this is the best season of the year. It’s a simple yet vital pleasure to enjoy and reconnect with the nature around us. By investing time into our patio, we’re able to create an outdoor sanctuary and a feeling we can finally share with our family and friends. So consider this our love letter to outdoor spaces and how with a little bit of design and effort, they naturally suit our everyday needs.
Summer’s living room
Free your home and the boundaries of your living spaces by extending to the outdoors and creating that tranquil escape for everyday relaxation. Start by rechanneling some of the familiar, balancing energy from the indoors and mix it with a new sense of release as you reconnect with the great outdoors and evermore, old friends. Incorporate rugs on your balcony or terrace for that riad courtyard feeling and add a few floor pillows for more intimacy. Canopies, umbrellas or shade sails are also the perfect way to stay cool and provide a sense of protection from the sun, in order to keep basking in that much needed fresh air.
Embrace outdoor pillows
Don’t be afraid to add some “indoor” fabrics outdoors, such as cotton or linen pillows and throws. Most outdoor fabrics contain a lot of plastic and are meant to be UV/waterproof, but these materials tend to be harmful to the environment and harsh to touch, or even to lay your head on. If you’re worried that your pillows might fade or get ruined by the sun, stick with monochromatic or earthy colors for your outdoors and of course, keep them in the shade as much as possible.
It’s simply good for you
Being outdoors and connecting with nature, even if it’s something small as listening to the chirping of birds or breathing the fresh air for a brief minute, is now more liberating and necessary than ever. As we’re slowly reuniting with our loved ones again, we’re reminded these little moments are the memories we missed sharing. Get back to basics with your close friends and family by encouraging an early wake up as the sun rises to take a nature walk or enjoy some morning yoga and simply be together.
Fresh air dining
There’s nothing more refreshing than an array of summer vegetables and sliced fruit to indulge and revitalize our bodies after a long day at the beach or pool. Set the table with durable and sustainable fabrics, such as linen, to contribute to your already cozy and natural atmosphere. Use some greenery from your surroundings to add a bit of contrast and freshness for the table. And for unwinding on those warm nights, enjoy an al fresco dinner or cocktail hour over some simple candlelight.
The way we design our patio is a reflection of our love for our environment. So let’s take some time to reflect on how we can accentuate the beauty of our surroundings by adding a few natural elements and touches that will evoke that comforting feeling.
